PhD-topic: Assisting autonomous functionalities for safe tele-operation
Automatic mapping of the environment, and detection and reaction to hazards can dramatically reduce cognitive burden on the tele-operator. These autonomous functionalities will provide better situational awareness to the operator, and give him/her possibility to operate the mobile manipulator in a cluttered environment with incomplete visual contact.
Training will include:
Optimization, planning and motion geneeration for mobile manipulators
Tools to develop Augmented Reality software
System engineering practices, including collecting need and handling requirements
Programming and software project management
Additio training such as communication and management skills
Participation in the network’s workshops summer schools and conferences
Benefits:
3-years full-time position
Salary will be according to EU regulation (around 2000 €/mth + special benefits)
Excellent networking opportunities i.e. planned research visits to Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain (2 months), CERN Geneva, Switzerland (3 months and Bgator Ltd. in Finland (1 month)
Requirements
Applicants must have the equivalent of a master degree in engineering or mathematics with solid programming background; or a master degree in IT, with strong motivation in engineering and mathematics.
Excellent English skills.
Applicant must fulfil at the time of recruitment following conditions:
The ESR must (i) have a university degree (undergraduate Diploma, but must not have a doctoral degree (ii) have less than 4 years of full-time research experience, (iii) have not carried out their main activity in Finland for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
