A PhD position in Biocomposites is available at the KTH School of Chemical Science and Engineering. This PhD position in Biocomposites is a full-time position in the Department of Chemical Science, KTH.

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are about 12,000 full-year undergraduate students, 1,400 postgraduate students and 3,100 employees.

The School of Chemical Science and Engineering includes the areas Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Fibre and Polymer technology. It encompasses both fundamental and applied chemical sciences and seeks sustainable development through scientific excellence. Many research activities are interdisciplinary across the borders from chemistry to materials science, environmental science, biochemistry, biology and medicine. The School offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Science and Engineering, Higher Education Diploma in Chemical Engineering and three international Master programs Chemical Engineering for Energy and the Environment, Macromolecular Materials and Molecular Science and Engineering. We cooperate also with the Master programs Energy and Environment, Materials design and Biotechnology.

Research project
The Division of Biocomposites in the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology announces a PhD-position. The aim of the project is to develop our understanding of nanostructured biocomposites based on cellulose nanofibers. We are particularly interested in the PhD application of functional cellulose nanomaterials in nanostructured devices. Examples of materials previously developed include cellulose nanopaper, aerogels, foams and organic/inorganic hybrids.

Qualifications
A suitable background for this position is a degree in Materials Science, Materials Chemistry, Engineering Physics or related field. It is a merit, although not a requirement, to have previous experience or training in polymeric materials.

The successful PhD applicant should be strongly motivated for PhD studies, possess cooperative and communicative skills, ability for independent research and have good analytical skills.
