A PhD Position in Nanomaterials and Nanodrug is available with the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal. This Early Stage Researcher position is under the FP7, Marie Curie Initial Training Network Program of the European Union.
PhD Fellowship Description
The aim of this research-training network is to develop and characterize a selected set of novel intelligent nanomaterials and to study their suitability as novel drug delivery systems targeting inflammatory skin diseases. The consortium brings together groups with a very interdisciplinary expertise ranging from polymer synthesis and characterization, computational modeling and physicochemical characterization of materials to bioavailability, nanoparticle formulation, drug distribution and nanotoxicity, genetics, drug delivery and clinical dermatology.
The selected candidate (PhD student) is expected to study the effect of nanomaterials on cell biology (toxicology and modulation of cell/stem cell activity) under the supervision of Dr. Lino Ferreira and collaborate with the academic and industrial partners in the NANODRUG network and beyond, to exploit the research outcomes. The appointed candidate will benefit from exceptional training opportunities and will be attending each year the Nanodrug training schools and international meetings. In addition the researcher will be expected to undertake three short periods of secondments to other partners in the Network, one of which will be with one of the industrial teams.
Place of employment
The position will be at the University of Coimbra, Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, Portugal (http://biomaterials.biocant.pt). We have state of the art facilities for cell culture and characterization, and preparation of nanomaterials.
Eligibility
The Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (University of Coimbra) is an equal opportunity employer, which welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates. Eligible applicants for this ESR fellowship should possess a Masters degree in Materials Science, Cell Biology or Biochemistry. Portuguese candidates cannot apply. Previous experience in Nanomedicine or Nanobiotechnology is desirable.
Salary
A contract of employment between the selected candidate and the institution for 36 months will be signed. The annual salary (includes living allowance plus mobility allowance) is 40,739.2 euros. The selected candidate will need to pay taxes.
Application Procedure
Please send a single PDF file with the full CV including detailed scientific experience, two reference letters and the reason that you are applying for this position to Margarida Catarino (margarida.catarino@biocant.pt). A short list of candidates will be then contacted and required to take part in an interview.
Note, application deadline to the Marie Curie PhD Position in Nanomaterials and Nanodrug, Portugal is 20 September, 2011.
