The Centre for Research on Epidemiology of Disasters (www.cred.be) is offering 2 PhD scholarships in Health sciences. The PhD scholarships position will be funded by a research grant from the Belgian Foundation for Scientific Research (FNRS grant).
The position is fully funded until December 31st 2014 according to the Belgian employment regulations.
The project supports two PhD candidates (of which this is one) and focuses on the mortality, morbidity and disease in post emergency settings such as civil conflicts and natural disasters. One part of the project relates to medical consequences of crises and the other addresses social and economic issues related to health. Field work and case studies are included and will provide
the primary materials for the thesis.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Debarati Guha-Sapir and with the CRED team. He/she must have a strong academic record in one or more of the following areas: development economics, medicine and public health, epidemiology and biostatistics and have indicated interest in academic work.
Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary and fluency in French will be a strong asset. The candidate must follow the programme of the Louvain School of Public Health and will, if successful receive a degree from the Université catholique de Louvain - School of Medicine.
