The Department of Applied Physics is one of the top performing units of Aalto University. The Department has strong traditions in experimental as well as in computational and theoretical physics research. It hosts COMP, the Center of Excellence in Computational Nanoscience, and the newly established National Nanomicroscopy Center. Besides, well-equipped cleanroom facilities are available at Micronova, the Center for Micro- and Nanofabrication, as well as modern facilities at the Low Temperature Laboratory. The Department currently has 13 professors, about 45 senior academic and 15 supportive staff members, and 90 full-time doctoral students.
