Applications are invited for PhD scholarships in Chemistry or Materials Science to develop research work in the synthesis and characterization of oxide and nitride‐based nanowires. The PhD scholarships in Inorganic Nanowire will focus on the preparation of inorganic nanowires by template assisted growth with possible further nitridation to obtain oxides and (oxy)nitrides with relevant physical and chemical properties. The prepared nanomaterials will be characterized both in terms of structure and properties.
The ICMAB is a research institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest research organization of Spain focusing on basic and applied research. The ICMAB,which is already more than two decades old, keeps its initial enthusiasm which makes it a very attractive place to work for young researchers. At present the ICMAB includes about 200 people with 53 scientists as permanent staff. The initial and ongoing mission of the ICMAB is “to generate new knowledge in Materials Science and transfer it to the society, particularly to industry within the European Research Area“. Materials Science has evolved dramatically in the last 20 years and the cutting edge activities in this area are now deeply rooted in the Nanoscience revolution.
For details about the institute visit the scholarships link.
The candidate must have a degree preferably in Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering. A good academic record is required.
The position is available immediately. Interested candidates should send a CV and a short motivation letter before 15th of January 2011, to: amparo.fuertes@icmab.es (Prof. Amparo Fuertes) and gerard.tobias@icmab.es (Dr. Gerard Tobias).
