The Faculty of Arts Masters Thesis Scholarships was established in 2010 and is funded by the Faculty of Arts, University of Auckland, New Zealand. The main purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support students undertaking a research thesis or portfolio for an approved Masters degree in the Faculty of Arts.

Selection process
  • Full or part-time enrolment in a 90 or 120 point thesis or research portfolio for the degree of Master of Arts, Master of Literature, Master of Public Policy or Master of Theology.
  • The basis of selection will be academic merit assessed by the GPA obtained in the prior 120 points (or equivalent) of the student’s postgraduate level enrolment in relevant subjects.

The Scholarship may not be concurrently held with a University of Auckland Masters/ Honours / PGDip Scholarship or a Faculty of Arts Masters / Honours / PGDip Scholarship. However it may be held with any other award or grant as long as the terms of that award or grant permit and the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves. If the value of the co-tenured scholarships exceeds $20,000 the emolument for the Faculty of Arts Masters Thesis Scholarship will be reduced to limit the co-tenured total to $20,000.

The Scholarships will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Associate Dean (Academic) (or nominee), the Associate Dean (Postgraduate) (or nominee), and one other member of academic staff of the Faculty of Arts, nominated by the Dean.
