The Signal Processing group at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, is seeking to fill a PhD position in Acoustical Signal Processing for Hearing Aids for the duration of 4 years.

The Signal Processing group at the University of Oldenburg, Germany is seeking for candidates with a Master (or equivalent) degree in electrical engineering, computer science or physics, who have excellent grades and a solid scientific background in acoustics, signal processing, speech processing and/or auditory perception. Familiarity with scientific tools and programming languages such as MATLAB or C, as well as good English language skills are required. Research experience in any of the mentioned fields and a strong interest in interdisciplinary and application-oriented work is desirable.

The successful applicant will join a research group whose activities center around signal processing for acoustical applications (e.g. microphone array processing for speech enhancement and source localisation, active noise control, acoustic sensor networks and hearing aid processing). The Signal Processing group is part of the interdisciplinary Centre for Hearing Research and closely collaborates with the Medical Physics and Acoustics groups at the University of Oldenburg, as well as with the Fraunhofer project group for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology.

The envisaged research topic is in the field of signal processing for hearing aids, more specifically improving active noise control and feedback suppression techniques for open-fitting hearing aids by exploiting personalized ear canal and feedback path models. Apart from conducting research that leads to journal publications and a PhD thesis, the PhD student is expected to take some graduate courses and to be involved on a limited scale into teaching activities and supervision of Bachelor and Master students.
