A Electrical Engineer position in the Technology Department (TE), Magnets, Superconductors & Cryostats Group (MSC), Magnet Normal Conducting Section (MNC) is available with CERN, Switzerland. The Group Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) of the Technology Department (TE) is in charge of the design, construction and maintenance of the magnets, superconductors and cryostats for the CERN accelerators.

Functions of the Electrical Engineer

You will be a member of the section in charge of the normal-conducting magnets. In addition to the operation, maintenance and upgrades of about 6000 magnets, the team is in charge of the specification, design and procurement of magnets for approved new projects and for conceptual design studies. You will participate in the SESAME project, a future synchrotron light source in Jordan, where CERN will deliver the magnet system.

In particular, you will:
  • Together with the physicist and engineers of SESAME, elaborate the design of normal-conducting electromagnets for the synchrotron ring;
  • Perform 3D magnetic modeling and optimization of magnets;
  • Prepare technical specification and other relevant documents for tendering and procurement;
  • Gradually take charge of the organization of the magnet manufacture at CERN and in industry;
  • Organize and critically review the relevant acceptance tests;
  • Based on the results of the above tests, implement corrective actions;
  • Later, participate in magnet installation and machine commissioning.
